Ok, got my first run of the new year in.  It's about time.  Just a  short one at lunch but it felt pretty good.  I've been sick with some sort of stomach issues the past couple of days and hadn't felt like doing much of anything.  Time to start working on the goal of 2500 miles for the year.

Ran on the 'mill tonight.  Ran the first couple easy then bumped the pace up to a sub 7:30.  Ended up doing a 5K at 7:45 pace.  Happy with that at the moment.

Six at lunch.  My cold weather running has reached a new low.  It was 25 at lunch and I was in shorts.  Not bad.

Up Farmington Canyon to the radar towers and back down.  Got out of the inversion for awhile.  Beautiful day, sunny, calm, low 30's, even at 9500'.  Plowed road all the way.  Wore my Kahtoola Microspikes and they were the perfect thing for traction on the packed snow and ice.  Pictures later at my blog www.ultrajim.blogspot.com

In Huntsville, AL for some meetings and managed to get in a run with fellow Speedgoats Rob and Kathy Youngren.  Took a short trail tour of Monte Sano state park, right outside their back fence.  Very cool.

Went on another run with Rob and Kathy.  This time a little longer.  Ran part of the Mountain Mist 50K course.  I need to go run this race.  Crossed a creek with a frozen waterfall that you could walk behind.  I wish I'd had my camera.  Very cool.  Finished up after dark but had our headlamps.  Lots of fun.

Hit the t'mill again.  Started out kind of slow but as I went along I felt better and started bumping up the pace.

Tried something a little different.  Had big plans to go outside at lunch and ended up in a meeting instead.  So I hit the 'mill.  Started at 6mph (10:00 pace) and bumped the speed up 0.1 mph every .25 miles.  Ended up at 7:30 pace by the end.

Ran out on the island.  Trails weren't in too bad of shape.  Most of the old now had melted or had been packed down by horses so footing was pretty good.  Took my new volunteer coordinator for the Buffalo Run out there.  She had never been on the island before.

Another lunchtime run.  A little cool but not too bad.  Kind of tired of running on the roads.

6 x .50 @ 6:35 pace on the t'mill.  I really dislike speed work, but it works.

Did a little trail run (finally) above 22nd street.  Nice packed trails.  Used my microspikes to good effect.  Lots of fun to finally get some trail running in.

Started at Rainbow Garden and went south to Beus Canyon, then back to Rainbow and north to Jumpoff canyon all on the BST.  Lots of snow, very little dirt.  Trails were well packed though.  Used my Kahtoola microspikes and didn't slip at all.
