So I've really slacked off on writing in the blog.  Still running, just not recording it here.  Started swimming laps today for the first time in many many years.  Training for a half ironman xsometime next year and thought I'd get a jump on it.  Managed to get 400 yards before I called it quits.  And to think I used to swim 8000 yards in 2 hours in high school.  memories.  Started doing some lower body weights as well.  Found an interesting article in USATF Track Coach magazine about weight training for endurance runners.  Basically heavy weights and few reps for the first few weeks, then light weights and lots of reps for the next few weeks.  Squats, dead lifts, hamstring curls, calf raises, and power cleans.  Didn't do the power cleans.  Was going to go run at lunch but didn't make it due to a lunchtime meeting.  Oh well.  Also signed up for the Striders Winter Training Series again.  Scored 2nd in my age group this year.  We'll see how I do next year.  The goal is to take every race at well under an 8 minute pace.  We'll see how that goes, but along with the weights I've started doing intervals consistently and tempo runs as well.  That should help.

Tempo run on the 'mill. Actually went better than I thought it would. Managed to run 3 of the miles at a sub 8 pace. I'm happy with that.

Awesome fall afternoon run on one of my favorite trails.  Also swam 500 yards and lifted weights this morning.  Oh, and I went to work as well.
