Short-Term Running Goals:

Direct a successful Antelope Island Buffalo run in March 2011, Mountain View Trail Half Marathon in October, and the Antelope Island 50K/100K in November.

Tenative 2011 race and run schedule - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon, Grandeur Peak fun run, Timp Trail Marathon, Pocatello 50 mile, Western States 100 mile, Vermont 100 mile, Leadville 100 mile, Wasatch 100 mile (yep, trying for the grand slam of ultrarunning), Striders Winter training series, Moab Red Hot 50K, Red Mountain 50K, Survivor Series 10K (Rockford, IL), Grand Canyon Double crossing, Zion traverse, Boise Half Ironman (my first tri).  Might Run the Ogden Valley 50 mile, the Pony Express 50 mile and maybe the Chimera 100 in November.  I'm a memeber of the Wasatch Speedgoat Mountain Racing Team (www.wasatchspeedgoat.com).  One of my major goals is to not embarass the team with poor finishes.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay injury free and still be able to outrun kids half my age.  Stay fit enough to keep up with my grandson.

Personal:

52, married for 30 years to the same wonderful woman, 2 grown kids, 1 grandson.

That's my son and I in the picture at the 2007 Buffalo Run.  He's always a big help and a pretty cool kid.

I direct the Antelope Island Buffalo Run, the Mountain View Trail Half Marathon, and the Antelope Island 50K/100K, all on Antelope Island State Park.  The website is www.buffalorun.org

Come on out and run it, we have a good time.

I post some of my more interesting runs at my blog www.ultrajim.blogspot.com.  Check it out.

Ran on my favorite local trail.  Really pushed hard.  I wanted to go under an hour, but alas, I didn't make it.

Ran 36:41 for the first half.  10:48/mile but that includes about 1/4 mile walking to warm up a little.  Also gained around 800'.  The run back was in 28:21 or 8:18/mile.  Total time was 1:05:02.  A PR for that run.

Great job Jim!!! Which trail did you run?

I start at the 22nd street trailhead and go up the BST. I usually do my hill repeats on that long hill that goes south from Taylor Canyon. I follow that upper trail south and go up the switchbacks above Weber State. There's a park bench part way up those switchbacks that I turn around at. It's a 6.8 round trip from the trailhead. If you keep going south and take the upper BST to where it joins up with the lower section, it's about 9.0 roundtrip.

Jim...

That sounds like a lot of fun. You know, I bought a Weber County Trails map last Spring. I really should check it out and hit the trails next year.

Nice, way to go. Sounds like you are ready for Twin peaks.

From ultrajim on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:11:19

I don't know if I'm ready or not. At this point it really doesn't matter. I have no idea how you get up at 3:40 and go running. I have a hard time getting up at 4:45 to run into work. Maybe if I had trails close by like you it would be easier, then again probably not. I like my sleep too much I guess.

Dave,

What's your goal for ATY?

From crockett on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:46:28

Goal for ATY is 110. Who knows. I thought I could do "easy" Pony Express 100 in 24 this year but didn't.

From ultrajim on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 22:33:38

That was my goal for last year. I did some analysis on my lap times and figured that if I hadn't taken a couple of short naps, I would have had it and moved up from 4th to 3rd. Oh well. You should be able to pull it off.

From tarzan on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 21:39:00

I'll make sure and email you if you are both interested during ATY.

From ultrajim on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 00:42:08

Hey, the more e-mails the better.

From crockett on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 10:00:38

Yep, emails will be great. The ruder, the better, to make me laugh when I'm also crying in pain.

From ultrajim on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 10:49:39

I need e-mails that remind me to eat and drink, take care of blisters and chafing, stay focused, etc. However I will gladly accept any really bad jokes, snide comments about how slow I am, and comments on any pictures of me that show up on the webcam.
