Short-Term Running Goals:

Direct a successful Antelope Island Buffalo run in March 2011, Mountain View Trail Half Marathon in October, and the Antelope Island 50K/100K in November.

Tenative 2011 race and run schedule - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon, Grandeur Peak fun run, Timp Trail Marathon, Pocatello 50 mile, Western States 100 mile, Vermont 100 mile, Leadville 100 mile, Wasatch 100 mile (yep, trying for the grand slam of ultrarunning), Striders Winter training series, Moab Red Hot 50K, Red Mountain 50K, Survivor Series 10K (Rockford, IL), Grand Canyon Double crossing, Zion traverse, Boise Half Ironman (my first tri).  Might Run the Ogden Valley 50 mile, the Pony Express 50 mile and maybe the Chimera 100 in November.  I'm a memeber of the Wasatch Speedgoat Mountain Racing Team (www.wasatchspeedgoat.com).  One of my major goals is to not embarass the team with poor finishes.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay injury free and still be able to outrun kids half my age.  Stay fit enough to keep up with my grandson.

Personal:

52, married for 30 years to the same wonderful woman, 2 grown kids, 1 grandson.

That's my son and I in the picture at the 2007 Buffalo Run.  He's always a big help and a pretty cool kid.

I direct the Antelope Island Buffalo Run, the Mountain View Trail Half Marathon, and the Antelope Island 50K/100K, all on Antelope Island State Park.  The website is www.buffalorun.org

Come on out and run it, we have a good time.

I post some of my more interesting runs at my blog www.ultrajim.blogspot.com.  Check it out.

Ahhhh, first time I've run since the race last week.  I had some knee tendon issues (maybe a little overuse injury?) from the race and didn't want to push it so I decided to wait a week.  Even though it was on the treadmill, it felt really good.  No knee pain at all.  I'm back and time to ramp it up again.  Yee haw!

Good to see you back; when's your next ultra?

From ultrajim on Fri, Jan 09, 2009 at 19:50:29

Possibly a 50k snowshoe race at Wasatch State Park at the end of Jan. I've never been on snowshoes before in my life and I don't like running in cold weather, so a new running adventure may be in store for me.

Glad your knees are feeling good. Oh boy, I couldn't imagine running a 50k with snowshoes on.

I know how you feel about cold weather. Ironically, a friend just suggested that I enter the Susitna 100. Don't think that one will happen any time soon for me, but good luck to you in the snowshoe race.

Sounds like all your conditioning is paying off in your bounce back time.

Jim - question for you? I am 'toying' with the idea of switching up to the 50 miler on Antelope instead of the 50K. Do you think I could do it at my current speed? I have never run a 50 miler before and I think I could finish in time, but I would hate to be 30 minutes or so over and have to DNF.

From ultrajim on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 11:05:33

Maurine, I think you could do it. I've only had to yank one person for being over the time limit and he was going to be way over anyway (like a few hours). If you think you're going to be 30 minutes or so past the cutoff, don't worry about it. It'll still be light and we should still have some buffalo stew left and you'll get a finisher shirt.

Susitna 100? I've looked at the website, read some of the reports and decided no way on earth would I do that race. That would be absolutely no fun for me. Those people are really crazy in the head.

From tarzan on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 11:19:47

Gulp - OK - I think I'll take the chance. Can you move me up to the 50 miler and I will send you a check for the $15 additional cost?

From ultrajim on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 11:58:00

I'll change it when I get home tonight. It's a good thing to step outside your comfort zone once in awhile and give something a little more difficult a try.
